Pandharpur

Date: 17-Oct & 18-Oct-2017

During Diwali 2017, we (my brother & myself) planned for a trip to Pandharpur, a holy place for hindus, where Rukmini Krishna's abode exist. Krishna worshipped as Panduranga, Vittala in this place, in Maharashtra. Pandharpur is just a 5 hours journey, 220 kms from Pune where I live currently.

Started on 9.40am on 17-Oct and reached Pandharpur just around 2.30 in the afternoon. Though it rains on daily basis, heavy hot weather prevails on the way as well at Pandharpur, people busy with diwali shopping everywhere.

I made accommodation booking at ISKCON Pandharpur, contact #: 02186 267242, East bank of Chandra Bhaga River. Poor maintenance and there are few more drawbacks, though manageable for a day stay. ISKCON provides food (prasad) at definite timings at a nominal rate. Please take a note that ISKCON is little far from Rukmini Panduranga temple as well there are no other shops around.

Around temple, there are handful of horse carts, just to show the city is still maintaining the old tradition.

We already made online booking for our darshan between  5pm & 6pm on 17th Oct. Reached temple and took necessary stamping from the nearby Office to enter into the online darshan queue. It seems even the general darshan queue too is not crowded though usually it will. People must be busy with diwali preparations, lets hope.

The one just opposite in the foto below is the Rukmini Panduranga temple.

Just an hour inside temple and we got a very good darshan. You can enter the main sanctum, touch Panduranga Vittala's feet; That day Vittala was dressed in a dark blue full hand shirt, with jewels all over. You may also get blessings of Rukmini, Satyababa, Radha Rani inside the temple.

Our family deity Khandoba on the way in the main road.

The next day we started our journey towards Kaikadi Mahraj Ashram where you have a lot & lot of hindu sculptures for darshan.

We clicked a very few pictures since photography is not allowed inside.

After an hour around the Ashram, we started our journey back to Pune and reached at 2.30pm on 18th. The Diwali of 2017 ended up with a very good get-together family time for us.
